Body

"Webex Calling" is a cloud-based Unified Communication Service marketed by Cisco that is used at CWRU to provide softphones for the University.  This article documents the importance of E911 location and how your E911 location is updated.

About E911 Location

Enhanced 9111 (E911) is a system used to automatically provide caller's location to 911 dispatchers.  Under the FCC regulations, the University must provide an accuracy location of the 911 caller to the police dispatch (PSAP).

Webex Calling E911 Service

E911 service is included in the Webex Calling.  It is important to make sure your E911 location address is as accurate as possible.  If you are located on the CWRU campus, your location is determined automatically by the Webex App assuming your computer's location service is configured correctly.  If Webex app cannot determine your location (e.g. working from home), then you will be prompted to enter your location address.

E911 Service for Webex Mobile app

Webex mobile app for iOS and Android mobile devices with valid cellular service do not need a valid E911 address from Webex app.  All 911 calls and location address are handle by the cell phone carrier.
