Setting up an iPad in the CWRU environment

Procedure

1.  Turn on your iPad/iPhone (iOS device) and it should be placed at the Initial screen for setup.  It should look like the following. Pick the language suited to you and then hit next.  Follow the prompts to pick the following:

  • Region
  • Appearance
  • Quick Setup from another Device.  Select the option that says, “Setup without another device”.

2.  Set up the network so your iPad/iPhone (iOS device) can communicate to the outside world.  When you get to the page, note the list of Wireless names to select.  For here let’s pick the “Case Guest” ID.  “Case Registered” could be used, but you will have to login with your CWRU ID and that is limited to how many devices in can register.

3. You may choose to restore the device from backup to have data restored to your device from a backup (iCloud, another Mac, another PC or no transferring - as noted in the screenshot).  This process will take a moment depending on how much data there is to restore.

  • Pick the option to Restore “From iCloud Backup”.
  • Enter your Apple ID (Email address) and password.
  • It will prompt you for your apple MFA.
  • Once entered it will start the restore process

4. It will then prompt you for management enrollment with CWRU’s management server.  From there all you need to do is click “Enroll this iPad/iPhone”.  Once you Click Enroll the device will say “Configuring iPad/iPhone”, this is not optional.

5. You will be given a series of prompts to set various settings for the iPad/iPhone.  They are:

  • Setup Face ID
  • Create a passcode
  • Sign in with your Apple ID
  • Download Updates for your iPad
  • Location Services
  • Setup Siri
