Affiliate Network ID

CWRU Network ID accounts and associated services are only provided to users who are actively affiliated with the university (student, faculty, staff, alumnus, or emeritus.) If you are not actively affiliated with the university but require a CWRU Network ID for collaboration purposes, you may be sponsored for an affiliate account through an active CWRU faculty or staff member.

CWRU Network ID

Your CWRU technology account gives you access to dozens of resources. The CWRU Network ID is used by students, faculty, staff and university affiliates to access secure resources, including the wired and wireless networks, library databases, email and enterprise systems. The Network ID must be activated before it can be used.

CWRU Network ID and Passphrase Information

Your CWRU network ID, also referred to as “username” or “login,” is generated when you are hired. Your network ID is used to access restricted online resources, such as WebMail, the Student Information System, eStore and the Software Center.

CWRU Network ID Passphrase

Passphrases are created upon the activation of the CWRU Network ID. Passphrases expire after 365 days, except if the user is enrolled in multifactor authentication using Duo Security. You will receive email notifications prior to your passphrase's expiration date. Prior to your passphrase's expiration date, it can be changed. If you forget your passphrase, it can be reset at the passphrase reset page.

Google Apps Passphrase

CWRU users have a Google Apps passphrase in addition to their CWRU Network ID passphrase. The Google Apps passphrase is required for using client applications such as Outlook and other mail clients.

Passphrase Reset Questions

Passphrase security questions are a common form of online account management utilized by banks and businesses. By answering security questions correctly, users are given the chance to change a passphrase that’s been forgotten.

SSL Certificates

SSL certificates are used primarily to secure web sites by encrypting the traffic between a user's browser and the web server it is accessing. They are also used to encrypt traffic between client software and servers (for example between an Outlook mail client and the Case mail servers) for anything that can use SSL or TLS to encrypt traffic.
