Webex Calling is the next generation cloud-based Voice over IP Communication Services at CWRU.  Webex Calling allows you to replace your desk phone with a single application that can be installed in your PC or mobile devices.  It provides greater flexibility by allowing users to make and receive calls from any location using his/her CWRU phone number, whether on or off campus.

CWRU is a member eduroam, a secure, world-wide access service that allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain wireless Internet connectivity when visiting other participating institutions. Faceplate Number

The data and voice network is brought to your office, residence hall or classroom by fiber optic and Ethernet cables, much like the way electricity travels through electrical wires to your outlets. The outlets for the network and telephone system are called faceplates. Each and every faceplate on campus has a unique number to identify it.

Mobile Phones

Case Western Reserve has negotiated significant discounts for faculty, staff and students on devices and service plans with AT&T. Mobile phones and service plans can be purchased for business or personal use. Please consult with your department regarding its policy for university-provided cell phones.

Network Registration

Network registration verifies your device as a member of the CWRU network.

Registration allows UTech to contact and assist owners of devices if their machines become infected with a virus or are otherwise damaging to the network. Device registration also enhances personal security and deters unauthorized network traffic.

Resetting Voicemail PIN

You may set or reset your voicemail PIN at any time from the Voicemail Web Inbox (um.case.edu).

Static IP Address

Certain machines need to have their IP Address remain static or unchanged for particular uses. These computers, typically servers, can obtain a Static IP Address upon request.

Note that Static IP Addresses are assigned by building, so if you request a static IP Address and then move to a different building, your computer will no longer work on the CWRU network. You will need to release and re-request the static IP Address.

Voicemail

Case Western Reserve University's voicemail service is Cisco Unity Connection. Cisco Unity Connection archives your voice messages and delivers copies (as an audio file attachment) to your CWRU email account.

WiFi Calling

WiFi calling is a carrier-dependent feature that enables text and calling services over WiFi. This feature is available on most current smartphone models. If you frequently experience weak cellular coverage, we recommend enabling WiFi Calling as a way to improve service.

Wired Network

The CWRU wired network operates at speeds up to 1 Gigabyte per second. It consists of both fiber optic and Category 5 Ethernet ports for both data and voice. The network is available to the faculty, staff and students through the use of the ports on distributed faceplates.

Wireless Network

The CWRU wireless network is found in every building and many outdoor locations throughout campus.

To access the secure wireless network, enable your wireless network card and connect to CaseWireless. You will be prompted to enter your CWRU Network ID and password for access.

In order to control storage costs in Zoom, cloud recordings are retained for 150 days in the Zoom web portal. 150 days after a recording is made in Zoom, it will be sent to Zoom’s recording trash for 30 days and then deleted permanently.
